NEWS: Mayor Mamdani Attending NYRR Race at Fort Tryon Park JUNE 7
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani will join families, runners, and community members at Fort Tryon Park on Sunday, June 7, for a new community event hosted in partnership with New York Road Runners (NYRR), marking the launch of the city’s 2-K initiative.
Mayor Mamdani and NYRR, the nonprofit organization widely known for “running” New York City through its signature races and youth programs, announced that registration is now open for “2K for 2-K,” a free, family-friendly event designed to celebrate the administration’s new early childhood education program while encouraging families to apply for available seats this fall.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. at Fort Tryon Park and will feature a 2K run/walk, youth dashes for children, and a family festival focused on health, fitness, and community engagement. Organizers say the celebration aims to bring together New Yorkers of all ages while highlighting the importance of accessible early education and active living.
“This event reflects the spirit of New York City — families coming together, children staying active, and communities investing in the future,” organizers said in announcing the event.
NYRR officials noted that the organization has long partnered with schools and neighborhoods across the city to promote youth wellness and lifelong fitness through free and inclusive programming.
Registration for the June 7 event is open to the public through the NYRR website. Participation is free, though capacity is limited and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Community members are encouraged to register early as organizers expect strong attendance for the inaugural event!
