NEWS: Billings Lawn Reopens to the Public

One of Fort Tryon Park’s most treasured green spaces has officially reopened following the completion of a major restoration project aimed at protecting the landscape for generations to come!

The restoration of Billings Lawn was made possible through a generous $50,000 grant from Con Edison, funding that enabled the Fort Tryon Park Conservancy to complete critical drainage and infrastructure improvements throughout the popular gathering space.

The project focused on strengthening the lawn’s ability to withstand erosion and stormwater damage — two growing challenges for public parks facing increasingly severe weather conditions. By improving underground drainage systems and stabilizing vulnerable areas, the upgrades will help preserve the health and beauty of the lawn while reducing long-term wear and tear.

Conservancy officials say the improvements, though largely unseen by visitors, are essential to maintaining the park’s environmental resilience and ensuring the lawn remains accessible and sustainable year-round.

With the restoration now complete, visitors can once again enjoy Billings Lawn throughout every season — on a stronger foundation built to protect the landscape well into the future!
