Get ready for a day full of nature, history, and hands-on fun at Fort Tryon Park! On Saturday, April 26, the park will host a vibrant lineup of free, family-friendly programs to celebrate Earth Day, Arbor Day, and Olmsted Day. From kid-friendly science activities to creative art workshops and an immersive historic walking tour, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in one of Manhattan’s most scenic green spaces.

Here’s what’s happening:

CANCELLED: Science in the Park for Kids: Celebrating Earth Day – MAKE UP DAY TBA

11:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Dongan Lawn

Partnering with the mobile science lab BioBus, this interactive event invites kids and families to dive into the natural world. Explore soil samples under microscopes, identify local plants with the iNaturalist app, and learn about the park’s vibrant ecosystems. It’s a perfect chance for young nature-lovers to get their hands dirty and celebrate the wonders of the environment.

CANCELLED: Nature Sketching and Crafts for Kids: Celebrating Arbor Day – MAKE UP DAY TBA

11:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Dongan Lawn

Local artist Judy Alvarez will lead a special outdoor art workshop for children ages 5 and up. Surrounded by towering trees and spring blooms, kids can create tree-themed art, make nature crafts, and practice sketching plants from life. All materials are provided — just bring your creativity!

POSTPONED TO MAY 3rd – Guided Historic Walking Tour: Celebrating Olmsted Day

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM | Meet at Margaret Corbin Circle

Take a step back in time on a guided tour exploring the park’s fascinating history and landscape design. Learn about the Olmsted Brothers’ vision, the story of Tryon Hall, and the rich heritage that shaped this beloved park. It’s a must-do for history buffs and park lovers alike.

RAIN OR SHINE: Broadway Beautification

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Broadway Greeting Garden (Arden St. & Broadway)

Help keep Fort Tryon Park looking its best! Join the Fort Tryon Park Trust and NYC Parks for a community volunteer event along the Broadway Promenade. Volunteers will remove debris and prep planting areas for spring. Gloves, tools, and supplies are provided — just wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle.

No need to RSVP. However, groups of 5+ should RSVP to john.kelly@parks.nyc.gov

Between activities — or before and after the day’s events — stop by The Bonnefont or The Bonnefont Café on the lower level, two inviting spots located right inside Fort Tryon Park. They’re perfect for grabbing a casual lunch, snacks, ice cream, coffee, or a refreshing drink (with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available). It’s a cozy, welcoming spot to take a break and refuel before heading back out for more park adventures.
