Some of the park’s majestic 4-dozen elms are over 100 years old. We must inoculate them against Dutch elm disease every other year to protect the park’s ecology\, beauty\, and shade. If lost\, it would take 100 years to recover the canopy. \nThe Fort Tryon Park Trust pays for the $55k treatment program for historic trees through grants and donations. (NYC Parks funds the protection of younger elm trees.) \nHelp us meet the match by June 1! SUMMARY:Dog Run Re-Opens!
DESCRIPTION:After 20 years of community stewardship\, and no City Capital funding\, our dog run needed critical repairs so it can continue to be a usable park asset. Thanks to $100k from the Fort Tryon Park Trust and community donations\, a private contractor used heavy equipment to extract silt\, replace fencing\, and stabilize the slope.
