SUMMARY:Geology Hike - Urban Park Rangers
DESCRIPTION:Join the Urban Park Rangers on a hike in Fort Tryon Park and learn about why Manhattan rocks! New York City is the site of ancient earth-shaking and earth-shaping events. The bedrock that anchors the city’s skyscrapers tells a story of a place going back more than a billion years. The island of Manhattan is built on three strata known as Manhattan Schist\, Inwood Marble\, and Fordham Gneiss. \nPlease note: The Rangers are offering outdoor programs with limited attendance so that you can have a safe and enjoyable time in parks. The Rangers have put protocols into place to keep our participants and staff safe and healthy. We’re asking everyone to help us stay safe: \n\nStay home if you’re sick\nMaintain six feet of physical distance between households\nWear a face covering\nWash your hands\n\nNo registration is necessary. Please wear your mask and bring hand sanitizer. The Rangers will have extra masks on hand to give out\, if necessary. Meet at Anne Loftus Playground’s Broadway/Riverside Drive entrance. \nnyc parks event: fort tyron rocks!

SUMMARY:Giving Tuesday
DESCRIPTION:We know it has been a challenging year and there are a lot of options out there to support nonprofits in doing good for our communities. As you look for opportunities to spread generosity\, consider finding out more about how your generous support can have an impact in helping the Fort Tryon Park Trust protect\, preserve\, and enhance Fort Tryon Park. Private support of the Fort Tryon Park Trust is ever more critical this year\, due to NYC’s $84M cut to the NYC Parks budget. More cuts are on the horizon\, so please give what you are able to show your love of our historic\, 67-acre sanctuary of fresh air and beauty. \ndonate today

SUMMARY:Celebrate 85 Years of Fort Tryon Park at the Stan Michels Memorial Jazz Concert (Online)
DESCRIPTION:This wonderful annual musical event will be held virtually this summer. Join the Fort Tryon Tryon Park Trust\, NYC Parks\, and the Michels family to celebrate the park’s 85th Anniversary by honoring the late Council Member Stan Michels at the 12 Annual Stan Michels Memorial Jazz Concert. Enjoy live jazz by local impresario Marjorie Eliot\, her son Rudel Drears\, and their ensemble. This event is normally held underneath the majestic elms on the Stan Michels Promenade\, alongside the beautiful Heather Garden and overlooking the Hudson River. The promenade where this concert is normally held was named in his honor shortly before he passed away on August 1\, 2008. \nStan Michels represented Northern Manhattan in the City Council for 24 years from 1978 through 2001. He was a steadfast advocate for parks\, allocating over $50 million for park improvements in Washington Heights\, Inwood\, and Harlem\, including virtually every playground in his district. \nRegister with Eventbrite for Zoom info!

SUMMARY:Heather Garden Pollinators ZOOM with Leslie Day
DESCRIPTION:When you visit the Heather Garden in Fort Tryon Park during spring\, summer\, and fall\, you will see not only the hundreds of species of flowering plants. You will see beautiful hummingbirds\, butterflies\, moths\, bees\, beetles\, wasps\, and flies that pollinate these flowers. Join naturalist and author Leslie Day on Zoom\, to learn about the ecological relationship between pollinating animals and the flowers they depend upon for the nectar and pollen that is their food. And without pollinating animals\, most of these flowering plants would be unable to reproduce. Throughout evolution flowers and animals have relied upon one another for life itself. Through stories\, photographs and videos\, you’ll learn about how we\, too\, are dependent upon these interesting and exquisite life forms. \nPlease note: Space is limited and RSVP is required.  Register with Eventbrite! \nThis program was made possible through the support of the Fort Tryon Park Trust and the Greenacre Foundation. \nPhoto by Gabe Kirchheimer
