Learn how they worked with the park’s gardeners and the Olmsted Brother’s original 1935 plant list to strengthen and rejuvenate the Heather Garden to make it a destination with horticultural interest in every season. Their Framework Plan also equipped the Fort Tryon Park Trust and NYC Parks gardeners with information on how to best sustain the garden for future generations! \nRSVP here.

DESCRIPTION:When you visit the Heather Garden in Fort Tryon Park during spring\, summer\, and fall\, you will see not only the hundreds of species of flowering plants. You will see beautiful hummingbirds\, butterflies\, moths\, bees\, beetles\, wasps\, and flies that pollinate these flowers. Join naturalist and author Leslie Day on Zoom\, to learn about the ecological relationship between pollinating animals and the flowers they depend upon for the nectar and pollen that is their food. And without pollinating animals\, most of these flowering plants would be unable to reproduce. Throughout evolution flowers and animals have relied upon one another for life itself. SUMMARY:Fort Tryon Kids: Carving Palisades in Plaster
DESCRIPTION:Young artists will cast\, carve and hand color a bas-relief sculpture in plaster. Bas-relief is a low relief carving technique that adapts well to depictions of landscape. Using images of the iconic Palisades as source material\, young artists will learn to identify and separate planes of space and use simple carving techniques to create low relief sculptures.
