SUMMARY:Heather Garden Pollinators Presentation with Leslie Day
DESCRIPTION:When you visit the Heather Garden in Fort Tryon Park during spring\, summer\, and fall\, you will see not only the hundreds of species of flowering plants. You will see beautiful hummingbirds\, butterflies\, moths\, bees\, beetles\, wasps\, and flies that pollinate these flowers. Join naturalist and author Leslie Day\, to learn about the ecological relationship between pollinating animals and the flowers they depend upon for the nectar and pollen that is their food. And without pollinating animals\, most of these flowering plants would be unable to reproduce. Throughout evolution flowers and animals have relied upon one another for life itself. Through stories\, photographs and videos\, you’ll learn about how we\, too\, are dependent upon these interesting and exquisite life forms. \nPlease note: Space is limited and RSVP is required. To register\, please email RSVP@FortTryonParkTrust.org. \nThis program was made possible through the support of the Fort Tryon Park Trust and the Greenacre Foundation. \nPhoto by Gabe Kirchheimer

SUMMARY:Autumn Highlights Garden Tour with Public Garden Designer Ronda M. Brands
DESCRIPTION:Join public garden designer Ronda M. Brands for a behind-the-scenes look at the particular design emphasis on the garden’s Autumn assets\, and the plant selections made to ensure a remarkable blend of fall colors throughout the three-acre Heather Garden with its 550 varieties of plants\, trees\, and shrubs. \nBrands and colleague Lynden Miller have served as garden consultants to the Fort Tryon Park Trust since 2009. Learn how they worked with the park’s gardeners and the Olmsted Brother’s original 1935 plant list to strengthen and rejuvenate the Heather Garden to make it a destination with horticultural interest in every season. Their Framework Plan also equipped the Fort Tryon Park Trust and NYC Parks gardeners with information on how to best sustain the garden for future generations.

SUMMARY:Autumn Mushroom Walk with Expert Mycologist Paul Sadowski
DESCRIPTION:Join Paul Sadowski at Payson Center as he presents a short visual presentation showing Autumn mushrooms common to Inwood Hill Park. Then follow Paul on an exploration hike of the forest to seek out mushrooms introduced in the lecture. Given the evanescent nature of fungi\, it is difficult to know what species will be fruiting during the tour. Inwood Hill Park may be hiding fungi species not yet discovered! \nEmail RSVP@FortTryonParkTrust.org to register. \nThis walk is generously supported by the Greenacre Foundation and the Fort Tryon Park Trust.
