SUMMARY:Seeing with a Camera: Photo Workshop in the Park
DESCRIPTION:SEEING WITH A CAMERA with Aliza Holtz An Introduction to How the Camera Sees—and How That Affects Your Photographs \nSeeing with a Camera is an experiential photography workshop centered on a fundamental but often overlooked idea: the camera does not see the way we do! \nIn this introductory workshop\, participants are guided through a series of observations and simple exercises that reveal how the camera interprets light\, space\, and form. By learning to recognize what the camera records—and what it leaves out—participants begin to close the gap between perception and photograph. \nThis session is designed as a standalone experience and is accessible to individuals at all levels\, including those with no prior photography experience. Any digital camera\, including a smartphone\, is suitable. \nLocation & Time\n\n\nSunday\, May 17\, 2026 at 4:30 PM \n\n\nBeginning at the Margaret Corbin Circle entrance to Fort Tryon Park \n\n\n\nAbout Aliza Holtz\nAliza Holtz\, Ph.D. is a lifelong photographer who has used the camera for decades as a way of seeing\, exploring\, and understanding the world. Her photographs have been published for more than fifty years and exhibited in numerous group and solo shows. \nFor over twenty years\, she has focused on Fort Tryon Park\, developing a deep familiarity with its visual character\, seasonal rhythms\, and evolving landscape. \nAlongside her photographic practice\, Aliza brings extensive experience as an educator and facilitator. Her teaching emphasizes careful observation\, clear communication\, and reflective learning. In this workshop\, she invites participants to slow down\, look more closely\, and discover how the camera’s way of seeing can expand their own.
